The Final Blog

Ok, I know I promised to do this Saturday night, but quite simply, after the 8 and a bit hour journey back, I fell asleep :)
The end of camp was a fun one, with Harry's 14th Birthday party being a great success, pass the parcel, making outfits out of binliners and party dances being the order of the night, with pop and jelly & icecream for refreshment. Wednesday was also the day we saw out the severe weather warning, we got all the rain, but very little wind, and lets say the experience of Scouts saying "there's water in the porch of my tent" was an interesting one, which quite simply earned the reply of "bail it out then!". But alas, everyone stayed reasonably dry, apart from the cases of trench foot, which we'll be sending a letter to follow up about.
Thursday was a leisurly start to the day, with a relaxed morning on camp and around the creek, before we boarded the minibuses and headed to the end. We spent the afternoon and evening exploring Lands End, where some great photos were taken and entertainment was provided by the Cornish Wurzles and a magic in the skies display of fireworks across Lands End. After a late drive back to camp through the rain, fog and dark, it was straight to bed for the Scouts.
Friday morning it was up and round to Falmouth, where we stopped at Ponsharden and boarded the Park & Float service to reach the main town of Falmouth. Once in Falmouth we took the short hike up to Pendennis Castle where the scouts had to explore the castle and produce 1 fact each to work towards their Heritage badge. Once back to camp during the sunny afternoon we started to dismantle camp and load ready to prepare for the following mornings departure.
Saturday we were up and finished off packing things down, and then made final checks and jumped aboard the minibuses to head home.
Overall it was a long, enjoyable, wet but fun camp. We'll be returning to Mylor Bridge at some point and will look to have an enjoyable camp next time. For those of you interested in where we're looking to go next summer, look up "CamJam".
Signing off, for now!

The Super Blog

OK, prepare for it. The Super Blog.
I'm gonna do my Scout Leader *slight* moan that we are running a Scout Camp, we're trying to keep 24 children entertained for 10 days, and the internet signal here is WORSE than dial-up speed (remember those days?) and so the blog really is a bonus. Anyway, end of Skip's moan.
Monday was one of the first days we'd seen some glorious sunshine, and so we took the opportunity to explore some of the local Cornish countryside, donned the hiking boots, packed up lunches and grabbed the OS maps and headed off down the creek. We hiked around the coast line, through the tiny villages of Restronguet and Halwyn, before backing towards ourselves at Mylor Bridge. For those of you on facebook, you may have seen I found a signal to upload a picture of the view around where we were walking. The sun stayed out and during free-time many of the Scouts took the opportunity to walk across and go crabbing around the creek.
Tuesday we woke up and the sun was still glorious, so we took the bull by the horns and jumped on the buses and headed to Kynance Cove. Kynance Cove is probably one of the most beautiful beaches you'd find in the UK, and the long steep descent down i to the cove provides breath-taking scenery. The scouts enjoyed the sun and the sea, and before long the tide was chasing us up the beach, so we had to abandon the ship, climb back up through the cove and head back on the buses. After negotiating the Cornish lanes, we landed back onsite where the scouts either crabbed or played some games, before enjoying the evenings BBQ.
This morning we've once again been awoken by rain. Currently its steady rain, the get-you-wet sort of rain, rather than the torrential all the parents (my mother included!) has been warning us of. We'll see how the day progresses but we'll make do. Today with the weather, we're off in to Truro, the local major town for a bit of shopping theropy and to escape the rain. The rest of the week is a bit of heritage experience, but there will be fun as we're planning on crossing the Giant's Causeway to St Michael's Mount, and visiting Lands End where we're going to be staying for the Magic in the Skies experience.
Oh, and today, is Harry's birthday. Little does he know that we've got a suprise birthday party planned for him, a real kids party with jelly & ice cream, followed by the competition for "Bond Bin Liner" night.
Should be a fun day hopefully, and as Jane would say, fongers crossed for the weather to improve! If for some reason I cant blog again, we're all still on target for the planned return on Saturday at the same time.
It's Arrived!

For fear of cursing it, it gives me great pleasure in announcing that the sunshine has finally arrived!
Firstly, my apologies for not blogging yesterday, we just had one busy day. As some of you may have seen, I updated on facebook that we spent yesterday at Poldark Mine. This was a great experience for them, going 150ft down in to an old tin mine, which was dark and damp, and proved that some of the scouts were bigger wusses than we'd of expected, however they all managed it.
When we got back, the Scouts went out to the village green to gain some practice for the football tournament taking place in the village today. We had a BBQ tea in the rain, and finished the night off with Film Night, and homemade popcorn.
Today has been a relaxed start, with a nice cooked breakfast.. About an hour and half ago, the Scouts walked those few yards across from me to the village green, where we've got 3 teams in the 5-a-side, and from the reports I'm getting from people walking back and forth, they're doing alright! This afternoon is going to be crabbing, and probably tin-cooking pancakes, but a very chilled afternoon!
This evening we've got a bit of a ceremony happening, but the scouts it involves arent aware of it yet, so this should be interesting!
Tomorrow we've got our day hike around the area, and then more exciting things planned throughout the week. Please also note, I'm sorry I cant get picutres on as promised, but the speed of the internet I'm receiving is almost slower than the ol' dial-up days!
Oh and one note, whilst the sun is out here, after the stories we heard from Kent, I hope it's raining hard there now :)
